Título : The Role of Women in Work and Society in the Ancient Near East Tipo de documento: texto impreso Autores: Lion, Brigitte ; Michel, Cécile Número de páginas: 1 online resource (585p.) ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-1-61451-908-9 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Etiquetas: Altorientalistik antike Wirtschaftsgeschichte Frühgeschichte Gender Studies Resumen: Economic history is well documented in Assyriology thanks to the good preservation of numerous private and official archives; however, the contribution of women has seldom been addressed. This volume examines the many aspects of women as economic agents, inside and outside of the family structure over the three millennia of Near Eastern history. Papers address issues from historical and archaeological points of view and with a gender perspective
Rights, Action, and Social Responsibility: Public debates surrounding immigration policy, climate change, international relations, and constitutional and human rights are currently at the forefront of our national discourse. Critical reasoning, supported through academic research is needed. As a result, De Gruyter, along with its partner presses, is making freely available books and journal articles across nine topical areas for all students and faculty. Broadening access to this scholarship enables more people to address these issues in an informed manner: it helps us combat false news sources, to consider the nature of truth and ethics, and to understand the struggles of all members of societyEn línea: https://doi.org/10.1515/9781614519089 Link: http://biblio.unvm.edu.ar/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=31629 The Role of Women in Work and Society in the Ancient Near East [texto impreso] / Lion, Brigitte ; Michel, Cécile . - [s.d.] . - 1 online resource (585p.).

This book explores representations of intersex - intersex persons, intersex communities, and intersex as a cultural concept and knowledge category - in contemporary North American literature and popular culture. The study turns its attention to the significant paradigm shift in the narratives on intersex that occurred within early 1990s intersex activism in response to biopolitical regulations of intersex bodies. Focusing on the emergence of recent autobiographical stories and cultural productions like novels and TV series centering around intersex, Viola Amato provides a first systematic analysis of an activism-triggered resignification of intersexEn línea: https://doi.org/10.14361/9783839434192 Link: http://biblio.unvm.edu.ar/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=31469 Intersex Narratives : Shifts in the Representation of Intersex Lives in North American Literature and Popular Culture [texto impreso] / Amato, Viola . - [s.d.] . - 1 online resource.

While we hear much about the "culture of poverty" that keeps poor black men poor, we know little about how such men understand their social position and relationship to the American dream. Moving beyond stereotypes, this book examines how twenty-six poverty-stricken African American men from Chicago view their prospects for getting ahead. It documents their definitions of good jobs and the good life--and their beliefs about whether and how these can be attained. In its pages, we meet men who think seriously about work, family, and community and whose differing experiences shape their views of their social world. Based on intensive interviews, the book reveals how these men have experienced varying degrees of exposure to more-privileged Americans--differences that ground their understandings of how racism and socioeconomic inequality determine their life chances. The poorest and most socially isolated are, perhaps surprisingly, most likely to believe that individuals can improve their own lot. By contrast, men who regularly leave their neighborhood tend to have a wider range of opportunities but also have met with more racism, hostility, and institutional obstacles--making them less likely to believe in the American Dream. Demonstrating how these men interpret their social world, this book seeks to de-pathologize them without ignoring their experiences with chronic unemployment, prison, and substance abuse. It shows how the men draw upon such experiences as they make meaning of the complex circumstances in which they strive to succeedEn línea: https://doi.org/10.1515/9781400841479 Link: http://biblio.unvm.edu.ar/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=31524 The Minds of Marginalized Black Men: Making Sense of Mobility, Opportunity, and Future Life Chances : Making Sense of Mobility, Opportunity, and Future Life Chances [texto impreso] / Young, Alford A., . - [s.d.] . - 1 online resource (288 pages) : illustrations.
